A zine can be loosely defined as an underground publication that is independently produced and self-published, typically photocopied. People make zines out if a desire to share stories, knowledge, thoughts, opinions, and experiences. Zines are made for love, not for profit.
What is the Papercut Zine Library?
The Papercut Zine Library is a fully functioning lending library. We have over 14,000 zines, independent newspapers, books, magazines, and audio/visual works. The library is run by a non-hierarchical collective of volunteers.
Can I become a member?
Yes, membership is free and open to all. Come by the library to sign up.
When can I drop by?
The Zine Library is open Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 2pm to 7pm. Come by any time we are open! We will also open by appointment.
How can I get involved?
We are always looking for new librarians or volunteers to help out. Librarian meetings are every Mondays at 7:30 p.m. at the library; come by to learn more about the librarian training process, or what volunteer opportunities we might have available. (Our meeting times occasionally change. We strongly encourage new volunteers to call or email the day of the meeting to check in with us and let us know you are coming!)
How can I donate zines to the library?
We would love to add your zines to our collection, however we are not currently taking bulk or large boxes of donations. We are most interested in current, locally made zines as well as zines to supplement the following sections: Queer/Trans, Religion, Humor, Foreign Language, and Education/Parenting.
How can I donate money to the library?
Yes! You can send money via Paypal to papercut[at]riseup[dot]net. We can also receive checks made out to Papercut Zine Library.
